(Mona Curry’s recipe written in Blue Penny Scribbler)

1/4 lb butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 scant cups flour

1 tspn baking powder

1 bottle maraschino cherries

1 egg

1 tspn vanilla

Method:

Mix butter, sugar, flour, baking powder and  rub away from sides of bowl with fingers.  Add egg, vanilla.  Make 40 little balls and flatten with hand.  Put one cherry in centre of each cookie and roll up.  Make sure cherries are well drained.  Keep juice.  Put on baking sheet and bake 10 to 15 mins in moderate oven until slightly browned.  Frost when cool with butter icing flavored with cherry juice.
